Confirmation ministry as an expression of faith practices in a church should:

  • Support families fulfilling their baptismal promises;
  • Create space for young people to safely discover and wonder about their faith;
  • Develop both intellectual and spiritual practices in the lives of young people;
  • Grow intentional community among young people and the church.

This year at Salem will look a little bit different as we continue to move through our staffing transition, but this church is deeply committed to honoring the commitments listed above. Thanks, in advance for your grace and patience as we walk the transition together.

Confirmation Requirements

 In the past, families may remember weekly homework being a part of confirmation requirements. This year, we are focusing on growing a practice of worship with young people. So the requirement for 2019/20 will be:

  • Attend worship 6 times a year from October-May (that’s less than one Sunday a month)
  • Participate in worship leadership when you are present as (pick one): an usher, greeter, reading, communion assistant, special music, etc. Pick something you’d like to try and enjoy!
  • Viv, in the office, can sign you up for a role. Sign up a month in advance. When you arrive on Sunday for leadership, there will be a half sheet to fill out with the role you will be serving. Turn those sheets into Pete Erickson.
  • Talk to Pastor Tim or Pete Erickson if you have questions.

Welcome Pete Erickson!

Dear Salem Lutheran Community,

My name is Pete Erickson and I will be serving this community of faith as an interim in the area of youth and family ministry. I have worked with over 40 congregations to help them process, imagine and implement the next phase of life in youth ministry. I am so excited to be a part of God’s story being made know in your lives here at Salem!

In my time at Salem, I will live in two worlds. One world will be ensuring faithful youth ministry that engages young people and their families. The other world will be supporting and guiding a process that will look at the next evolution of life in youth and family ministry. There will assessment opportunities, focus groups, and opportunities to dream about and define a model of youth ministry that is faithful to the identity of this community of faith, engaging to young people, and responsive to the community.

When I’m not driving to St. Cloud, you can find me, my wife Selena, daughter Ellie and puppy Murphy (I have pics) living in the St. Croix Valley. In my very limited spare time, I am a tennis coach, songwriter, and fan of live music in the Twin Cities.

I look forward to partnering with you in this good work! I would love to have conversations with you about the past, present and future of youth and family ministry at Salem Lutheran. You can reach out to me at my snazzy, new email address: OR stop by the church. I will be here on Wednesdays from 9AM – 7PM.

Peace and Promise,

Pete Erickson
